Let's face it riding and skiing are fun no matter what, but you know what makes it better? Someone to ride with. This goes double for when you are making the drive from Sac, the Bay or somewhere that's not so close. Even the lake can be not so close when you're without wheels. We are happy to introduce our revamped ride-share page where you can post a profile about what area you live in, what time you like to leave and even if you prefer to share rides with two plankers or knuckle draggers. Think of it as an eHarmony for carpooling, and for a limited time only you can see your matches for Free. Ha ha, I jest but you get the picture. Actually, it is always free and we absolutely encourage it!!!!  It works great for people looking for rides as well as those looking for passengers.

Not to toot our horn but conditions are sick and you're not the only one who wants to come shred our luscious slopes, parks and pipe. Yes, we're so hot right now. That's why we are always trying to offer solutions for transportation with our Free Shuttles around South Lake Tahoe. We want to help you help yourselves.

X Prozac, Sub Nature

 

Sometimes we can all catch a case of the blues. It's human nature and life throws unexpected stresses at us every now and again. Next time you're feeling a down in the dumps skip the therapist and western remedies and head for the hills. There is an overwhelming healing quality wrapped up in the beauty that covers Sierra Resort.

There is nothing like a crisp blue powder day to lighten your spirits as the snow covered mountains radiate beauty. Its kind of like the way a roller coaster can force a smile now matter what your mood when you got on the ride. The sparkling air and snow covered scenery command a peaceful sensation more soothing than hot baths and chamomile.  If you just take the time to look around on days like these, you'll find yourself surrounded with shiny, heart warming goodness. It's like a big tight hug from your favorite friend.

Now, if you don't take the time to suck in the scenery, heart pumping adrenaline is another way to pop you back into the now. This approach forces a smile like a roller coaster too, but like a roller coaster where you pick and choose your turns, whips, flips and descents. Whooohoooo! If your slate is  only wiped clean for the duration of your run, shooshing down a mountian with snow hitting your cheeks is a sweet escape from the every day.

And let's face it, we can all use an intermittent reprieve from the norm.

Today the mountain is chicken soup for the soul. Try some.

Tuesday's all about the Park ....

Every Tuesday we are focusing on the amazing efforts of the talented people that create our awesome parks. Today is an especially appropriate day for park riding. We got some snow yesterday and it is a bit warmer today softening things up a bit. Thus, the landings to that new trick you're trying to stomp are a little more forgiving.

It's brilliantly sunny and the groomers worked all night to keep the terrain high and tight. It's a bit cooler than a spring day so it’s even better- less ruts and edge-sticky snow at the end of the day.

If you're like me this early in the season, you are still trying to resurrect your stock tricks and trying to convince yourself that there is no age limit for park entry... but try telling that to the hematoma on my ego, not to mention my back end. Still, I'm stoked that I can throw out some board slides here and there in the Progression Park . I am also I having fun with my current best trick, the nose poke. That's poke, not pick. I know, it's NOT fancy. Whatever your skill level it’s fun to get out there and test your abilities and the way I see it, as long as you're having fun you're doing it right.

But back to our parks, the people who make it happen are masters of their craft and work tirelessly to build terrain that gets us voted as one of the top 10 parks in the United States. (That was the voice of  riders, not some mysterious body of randoms like in the "Acadamy"). You can catch a video about what's going on in our parks every Tuesday for Terrain Park Take Over.

Get some sun while you can the forecast is calling for more weather throughout the week… wait, that's a good thing too!

WE GOT ANOTHER 8" OF FLUFF TODAY!

I was sweating a little this morning after giving the snow report. When I got here winds were calm, about 6 miles per hour and it was just lightly snowing. To my, and I'm sure your, delight the weather forecast said that it was going to be sunny starting after 10:00am. After posting it, I decided to take another peek out the window and I felt like if I was on stage, I would have been heckled or hit with tomatoes. The wind had picked up and it looked like a burley snow storm.

Thankfully after another hour or so, our prophetic weather gurus turned out to be right on the money. The winds have calmed the heck down and the sun and blue sky are cordially sharing their ominous real estate with lingering clouds.

Still, I wouldn't be surprised if by the time you read this, the weather has changed again.

Hmmmmm... weather in the Sierra.

 

The Beauty of 5:00 AM.

Some may think the task of waking up at 4am to report the snow conditions a tedious one, but really it's amazing what you see at that hour besides temperatures and snow depths.

As I walked out of my house and took a deep breath, I couldn't help but think the crisp scent of sweet pine is intensified at that hour. I drove down Hwy 50 towards Echo Summit as I sipped my eggnog flavored coffee. Passing that dark 6 mile stretch to Myers I could see what seemed like every star it the sky. It is so peaceful at that time of day, no noise, no traffic, no worries. As I hung a left at the Sierra at Tahoe welcome sign into the resort, everything was dark save where my snowy and dusty headlights pointed. In my view was a silhouette of a smallish furry creature.  As I approached, and it retreated, I made the form out as a coyote.

I thought surprised and delighted to see some wildlife," oh look a coyote!" and expected him to scurry off into the woods. He must have been confused however, because as he ran and looked back at the beast that was my Subaru, he only continued to run up the road. He didn't dart into the forest at all like I expected, just straight up the road and as I accelerated so did he.

At one point I clocked us both at 25 miles an hour. He was determined to keep his distance so the swift little guy matched my speed mile for mile. I found it humorous for some reason but was also quite impressed. With his speed that is, not his decision to follow the paved road. Finally, after a few accelerations and decelerations to test his skills, I came to a complete halt. The coyote ran off into the distance until I could no longer see him. I thought  he was gone, but when I started up again there he was- what was he doing there!?  I think at one point I may have called him a silly nerd and yelled at him to get out of the road, window down and everything. I said it and laughed, like he would really understand but, nothing else was working.  At long last I tried to pass him on the left, which forced him to veer into the woods where he should've been some miles back.

It was a funny little interlude, but the point is you can experience some really cool things when you wake up at an hour where only the stars and animals roam. I’m sure those dedicated powder hounds who drive from hours away to make first chair on a powder day can attest to this. I encourage everyone to do it or, do it more often.

P.S. 9 lifts running, 3 parks, top to bottom and mixed sun and clouds on the hill. With the sun  shining, it looks like another great day on the slopes!
