I know I've been MIA but that exactly what happened. I went outside to snap some photos and got stuck out there, got wrapped in a vortex of Christmas cheer, a scavenger hunt, a sketchy drive down the pass (about 6 times) and then some. You'll be happy to know, the intrepid journeyer that I am, I have survived.
Right to the meat, it is dumping !!! Has been. 18" inches over night and supposed to keep on comin' all the way through Wednesday, and then guess what? Sunny skies. The Sierra Nevada is great about producing this kind of glorious scenario. 10 feet of snow and then crystal blue skies. When the world is covered in a fresh white blanket, it looks magical. When the sunlight hits our surroundings they mimic all the glam of a disco ball as rays reflect sparkles in every direction. Did you ever wonder why they call it a winter wonder land? I think it's partly because of this phenomenon ... and partly because it’s mysterious how you can become detached from a ski and never ever see it again- straight wonder!
Those of you at the lake could confirm it may not be the coldest storm we've ever had but temps have dropped since this morning and at the base it's 31degrees. Wet snow is SNOW so, by nature it is awesome. This kind of snow means some other great things for our season too though. This snow is filling in all the craggily holes and crannies, is covering snow snakes and, builds the base of our highly textured terrain. This nook filling action means that you can put away your rock board and sets the tone for a long season. If you're like me you love long sunny days of spring riding, finishing up with a Corona, or ice tea, working on a goggle tan.
Back to current snowy conditions- come up, fasten your powder belt and have at it. If you can't make it today, it looks like it will be carte blanche again tomorrow.
