I left the resort on Friday afternoon with gusting winds and fast-blowing clouds. It was obvious that a storm was brewing. And yes, I saw the exciting weather reports calling for feet and feet of snow throughout the weekend, but I was not prepared for this much snow, this early in the season! It's now Monday morning and a total of 76 inches fell on Sierra Resort since Saturday and 2-4 feet are predicted for today alone.
Allow me to put 76 inches in perspective: lifts are buried, snow level is above my waist, entrance to Rentals is completely snowed in and every resort employee is either shoveling, plowing or snow-blowing.
So what does this "early season storm of all storms" mean for Sierra-at-Tahoe? Opening day is on Tuesday, November 23rd! We will be loading the base area lifts at noon with tickets available for just $20 for adults and $5 for kids. All ticket sales will be donated to local sports teams. Normal early-season operations will begin on Wednesday. The conditions are deep, blower and full-on winter - it's hard to believe that Thanksgiving hasn't even arrived. If pow conditions aren't enough to satisfy you, then be restassured that the Sierra Park Crew is currently pulling out rails for a 6 to 7 feature line on Broadway with everything from small to large jibs. As the snow continues to fall, be ready to continued park builds.
Till next time, much snow love from your ecstatic Sierra-at-Tahoe Snowreporter!
